I’ve been critical of amazon for a couple years as they try to expand into virtually every market segment while the quality of their core retail business diminishes significantly. Yesterday they posted their first annual loss in nearly a decade, almost no positive earnings for the quarter and growth is not looking positive. The results were almost entirely the fault of expensive, loss leading ventures like Rivian. Amazon’s crown jewel of profit AWS looks like it might be facing stiffer competition. Overall it looks like amazon will need to cut back side projects and focus on core businesses to return to profit and growth, but so far it seems unclear they are willing to do so.Surprisingly bad earnings from some of the largest and thought to be most stable companies keep mounting.https://www.marketwatch.com/amp/story/amazon-stock-falls-after-earnings-miss-shows-worst-annual-loss-on-record-least-profitable-holiday-quarter-since-2014-11675372658
